Asus To Launch Eee PC 901, Bettering The 900 Maybe! - Gizmo Watch

Asus To Launch Eee PC 901, Bettering The 900 Maybe! - Gizmo Watch: "The sub-notebook space is getting hotter! With MSI announcing the release date of its Eee PC 900 killer - the Wind, it wouldn’t have been hard for us to guess that Asus is not going to take things lying down. Despite the rave reviews for the 900, Asus is not content. Taking the model to the next level of functionality, the company is soon releasing the Eee PC 901. Apparently, the design will be retained, albeit with improved features like a new row of buttons between the keyboard and battery. A power plug on the left side would also feature in the new model. Watch this space ‘coz we are expecting Asus to announced additional features on its new sub-notebook.

Samsung’s New 240Hz Blue Phase LCD To Double Image Quality - Gizmo Watch

Samsung’s New 240Hz Blue Phase LCD To Double Image Quality - Gizmo Watch: "In case you spent a truckload of cash on getting a new widescreen plasma TV, you might not want to read on. Word is that electronics giants Samsung have developed a new LCD technology that can literally double existing image driving speeds. Called Blue Phase, the technology looks beyond conventional liquid crystal modes taking image quality to 240Hz driving speed, which is very, very close to a real moving image. What is even better is that going Blue wont burn a green hole in your pockets either. Since the technology doesn’t require crystal alignment layers like other LCDs, the design should turn out to be quite affordable. The good news is that we will be offered first glimpses of the impressive-sounding Blue Phase tech-goodness at LA’s SID 2008 International later this month. The bad news is that the company isn’t planning on taking the technology into mass production until 2011 which means you still have time to extract the cost out of the badass unit you just paid through your nose for.

Alternative Designs For Bloomberg Terminal; Drab To Chic - Gizmo Watch

Alternative Designs For Bloomberg Terminal; Drab To Chic - Gizmo Watch: "Moving on, there are the designs by thehappycorp and Ziba. The former is more lively and latter more to the point. However, both lack the direct appeal of IDEO’s terminal. Thehappycorp’s design suffers because it is too succinct – sacrificing information in trying to incorporate design elements – and seems a bit over-loaded for a financial terminal. Again Ziba’s design seems to be too focused on appeal rather than content. It seems flashy and extravagant; too messy for my liking. Obviously all the readers are likely to form their own judgments. So go ahead, tell us what you really think of the various designs. The pictures are in the order of description."

The OLPC Gets More User Friendly With The Windows XP Operating System - Gizmo Watch

The OLPC Gets More User Friendly With The Windows XP Operating System - Gizmo Watch: "Taking the very popular Windows XP operating system to underprivileged kids in developing countries, Microsoft has entered the One-Laptop-Per-Child project. Until now, we had these inexpensive laptops running on the open source Linux operating system as the expensive Windows operating systems made the project unviable. The use of Windows XP would eliminate the few drawbacks like the difficult user interface and lack of enough softwares that Linux brought along. Also, the huge range of educational softwares that exclusively run on Windows make it a very compelling choice. Meanwhile, Windows XP will run directly off a 2 Gb MicroSD card that the low cost laptop will feature. The OLPC now becomes a dual boot system which will run both the Linux and the Windows operating systems. This development also augurs well for the monopolistic Microsoft which is desperately trying to change its image. All in all, a welcome development to help the millions of impoverished students."

Mtron Launches Blindingly Fast SSDs - Gizmo Watch

Mtron Launches Blindingly Fast SSDs - Gizmo Watch: "Flash memory drives are definitely the future of data storage. That is at least for the next few years till the faster nanotechnology takes over. Apart from it’s rapidly falling cost, it has very quick writing and reading speeds. This, along with it’s low power consumption makes flash memory a very compelling option for modern day electronic devices. Now, Mtron have upped the ante to make flash memory blindingly fast with reading speeds of 130 Mbps and writing speeds of 120 Mbps. This makes their PRO 7500 series the world’s fastest flash drives. These drives come in sizes of 2.5 to 3.5 inches and capacities varying from 32 to 128Gb. For now, these drives are targeted at the industrial market and will hit stores in June. So you can expect them to trickle down to your desktops and laptops at the end of this year. Watch out for many more such flash drives in the very near future."
